Spring 2016 Trends/Themes

“You guys ready? Spring into 2016-“

CUT. None of those “spring into” puns/analogies, etc. Nah. Here’s the deal:

I’m gonna drop some real quick knowledge on you guys about Spring 2016 trends, so get those pens and notebooks out and take some notes!

spring 2016 color wheel

Firstly, I’ve provided you all with the current color wheel for Spring 2016, which features colors from various runway looks so you all can see which colors you currently have in your wardrobe and which ones you might be missing. There are four main themes for Spring 2016 to play with, so have fun creating your own looks!

Theme #1: Kitsch Maximalism

kitsch maximalist

This theme speaks to the playful side of the styling spectrum, with a dose of bookish charm accelerating a quirky mash-up of retro-skewed pieces. Layering works in conjunction with print, texture and colour. Whimsical cross-era juxtapositions are key, with a nod to the 1950s pushing a faux-thrifted granny-chic to the fore. Get crazy with accessories, loud prints/patterns, and make sure to have a “more is more” attitude when playing with this eccentric theme!

Theme #2: Girl Gang

A youthful wave of street attitude is outfitted in slouchy jeans and baggy Bermudas with an emphasis on the midriff. The waist begins to fall on all items within the bottoms category. Nostalgic hints surface with the boob tube and bra top layered underneath active-inspired jackets with decorative finishes. Think early 90s!

Theme #3: Romantic Rebellion

romantic rebellion

Romantic Rebellion acts as a darker, more youthful point of view to the New Romanticism story outlined in the womenswear Key Trends report. A juxtaposition of hard and soft drives the trend, in terms of texture and silhouette, with looks defined by a collaborative spirit between sheer materials, tough textures and fabrics. Bust out the black eyeliner and mascara girls.

Theme #4: Glamping

glamping

Spring just wouldn’t be spring if we didn’t have festival-inspired styles to play with! Festival-ready pieces such as the army jacket, Baja pullover and crochet midi-dress emerge on the S/S 16 catwalks. A jet-setting element is grounded by earthy connotations, with delicate lace coordinating sets acting as an overlay to summer swimwear. Bohemian and nomadic vibes appear in tonal suede crop tops and oversized jackets.

And there you have it, my fashionistas! Which themes do you like the best and which themes are you saying “Bye Felicia!” to? Let a girl know!

Do You Know Your Hair Type?

curl hair type

With the natural hair movement at an all-time high, ladies around the world are curious as to what type of hair that they have. Did you know that there’s actually a number and letter system that classifies your hair type? I sure didn’t until I stumbled upon this quiz from the lovely girls at NaturallyCurly.com. No matter what type of ethnicity or hair sweet baby Jesus gave you, this quiz will help you determine your hair type and also suggest products to try and articles to read concerning your special hair type. Oh, and what’s my hair type you ask? According to the quiz and convenient picture chart provided on the website, I have a mix of 3B and 3C curls. This means that my crazy mane is made up of curly spirally/coilly curls.

So why should you care? Great question. Finding out your hair type is like finding your soulmate. You never want to be without it again and you’re so glad you found them. Same thing goes for your hair type. The products that you’re currently using on your hair (and the ingredients contained in them) that you THINK are a match made in heaven, might not actually be true. Your hair type is picky. She wants what she wants and there’s no going around it. Certain hair types call for certain types of hair products. So why spend hundreds of dollars trying to “figure out” what hair products might or might not work for you, when you can take a simple quiz and be forever changed. I don’t know why you’re still reading this. Go. Take the quiz! And once again, you’re welcome cuties.

Product Highlight of the Month

Alright boys and girls, hold onto your hair cause I’m about to change its LIFE.

Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie pic

I’m normally not the type of person that will promote just –any- type of product just because. I wouldn’t do that to you. So know that when I speak on something, it’s purely from experience. The Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie is no. joke. “Why should I care?” you ask? Because your hair will thank you later, I promise. Here’s the deal: For my girlies with the curlies, this absolutely delicious smelling product is a multitasker. I don’t know about you, but I love when products put in just as much work as I do when it comes to hair care. Its main thing is to define curls, reduce frizz, and smooth hair for a soft, silky feel. Oh, but it doesn’t stop there boo boo. The Curl Enhancing Smoothie also restores moisture back in those sad dry curls and can be used as a conditioner and styling cream for all your curly-hair style fantasies.

I personally love using this product for twist-outs, wash and go’s, and just for everyday touchups. I also use it for a deep conditioner because why? CAUSE I CAN. CAUSE IT’S AMAZING. It’s packed full of organic ingredients and contains the most exotic type of oil ever… That’s right… Coconut. (I don’t know what it is about coconut oil, but it always makes me feel like an exotic island princess that has a luxurious enough life to use oil in her hair instead of for cooking…No? Just me? Alright.)

Anyways, just do yourself a favor and go grab you some curl smoothie real quick. It can be found at Target, Sally’s Beauty Supply, CVS, Walgreens, and Shea Moisture. Prices range from $6.99 to $12.99 so shop around and find you the best deal. And I’m seriously not kidding. Please stop reading this and GO. Make sure to come back, leave comments below, and let me know about your curly hair adventure!
